A plaque has been fitted to the stone in the half moon centre section of the cemetery by the Stonemason Mr Mike Weatherall from Danby, he has also cleaned the stone. The Friends group are very grateful to the many people who have contributed to this refurbishment. In the future there will be a dedication ceremony to the people who have lost their lives at sea. We hope to publish a commemorative booklet, if anyone has a loved one they would like included in the book, please let us know. It is hoped to start on a mirror image on the other side of the path, when money is available.

Half moon memorial garden
07/07/08
As in my pervious entries you will see that we have reinstated a memorial garden one side of the path in the middle section. Previously this was planted with crocuses however when they wern't flowering, people did not realise this and parked on the area. Many years ago it was a rose bed. Now it looks good and has a brick path surround and protective railings and decorative stone with planting around the area. The other side of the path was also a rose garden many years ago but now it is grassed over. We would like to make this a mirror image of the other half moon. We have put in for funding however it is very difficult to get funding for a cemetery as the funders say "that it is not benefitting many residents". We feel that it is appreciated by residents who are bereaved and that it is important for them to be an area that is cared for. We are now seeking sponsors to complete this project. A plaque will be fitted to the stone in memory of all those lost at sea. This topic is close to the hearts of people of Redcar as we all know or have family members who have been lost in the services, fishing and accidents over the years.
